We decided the next step, after letting the spackle dry, was to paint the whole thing with KILZ to seal everything in. A couple of days later that is just what I did, after sanding down the spackle. The first piece of wallpaper had started to unstick and curl and as I pulled it off I realized that the dark stripe that I thought would show through the paper was the only color that WASN'T bleeding through.

I put up a new piece of wallpaper and this time no discoloration and it stuck!! Success.

Now the wall was ready for Jackie to come back and check out the situation.
